Let me be clear, all restaurants are fantastic places with lots of food in them. It’s just that some are better than others.

The Ivy, on Robertson in Beverly Hills, a popular spot for celebs, tourists and”¦me. You’ve probably driven past it a million times, or seen it in the background of TMZ clips. Maybe you’ve wondered if it’s worth all the Hollywood hype.

Sure, the menu and background music varies very little but both are full of familiar classics that satisfy just about any palate. And though there’s barely enough room for all four of your legs on a chair, let me assure you, you won’t go home wanting.

If you arrive at noon on a Saturday (and let’s be honest, you don’t want to be THAT guy you’ll have to wait. Patience isn’t really my thing, but with a complimentary glass of champagne and endless people-watching, it’s not nearly as painful as you might think. When you finally get smushed into a cozy table on the patio, or on a comfy cushion in front of the fire, ask for Tanner. He’s smart because he LOVES dogs and already knows your order before you even ask: the 5oz Kobe Style New York Steak brushed with their house-made mesquite sauce. You get two sides to choose from and, though it might cost a little extra, you need to go with the two fried chicken breasts. I’m talking juicy white meat with a crispy skin that is so fresh it melts in your mouth. If this sounds like a lot of protein, it is. But you deserve it. It’s Saturday, after all, and you’ve been good all week.

For dessert you can’t go wrong. Ricky’s triple-layer chocolate cake is nothing short of amazing”¦IF you’re a chocolate person. Emphasis on person. I’m allergic to chocolate so I have them make me a vanilla milkshake with homemade whipped cream, in a bowl. Hold the straw.

If you’re not drooling now, I’ll leave you with this”¦you get a box of their famous chocolate chip cookies to take home ON THE HOUSE. Just for being you.

So next time you’re strolling down Robertson and you stop to sniff the iconic palm trees out front, drop in and say hello. You’ll be greeted with a smile and a pat.

Stay hungry my friends”¦
