Hangdog is the creation of Megan Anderson, writer turned artist with a thing for dogs.

Since her first sell-out exhibition of inky dogs in 2012, many a dog muse has wandered past Megan’s studio door. Some sniff the air and walk away, some look sideways and pee on the lawn. All inspire her to paint down-to-earth dogs in all their canine character. Hangdog artworks aren’t photo-real or serious. They’re more your ironic, smile-inducing thing.

A  journalist and editor whose writing has featured in Australia’s leading travel, food, home and lifestyle publications, Megan has a fear of ruts. Swapping words for pictures seemed like a reasonable way to avoid one. That’s where the Hangdog story began. It’s constantly unfolding on social media, where new dogs post their first selfies under Megan’s proud gaze. Facebook and Instagram are nifty windows into what’s happening in the Hangdog studio.

Finished artworks can be seen at occasional exhibitions and various outlets around Western Australia. And in the Hangdog shop, of course.

Megan lives and works in Fremantle, Western Australia, and takes direction from her complex golden retriever, Indi.
