1. Rabbits are the number three pet in the UK and the number three snack on my favorite food list.
2. In the USA, it is thought that about 2 million share their home with pet rabbits.
3. Male rabbits are referred to as bucks, females as does and the babies as kits.
4. Rabbits live in groups. These groups ares called herds. But I call it a buffet.
5. Rabbits are crepuscular, meaning they are more active during twilight hours.
6. If there’s something that rabbits know how to do it’s make other rabbits. Rabbits can two to three litters a year. Their gestation will last about thirty days. Each litter will consist of about six babies, but they can as many as ten.
7. Contrary to popular belief, rabbits should never be picked up by their ears, nor by the fur on their neck.
8. Most species of rabbits, with the exception of the cottontail rabbit, live underground.
9. Rabbit ears average about four inches in length.
10. Those legs can do more than just jump. Rabbits can run at speed of 30 or even 40 mph.
11. A rabbit’s life span is eight to ten years. But some have been known to live longer.
12. In fact the world’s oldest rabbit lived to be sixteen years old!
13. Rabbits are prey animals. This means unlike dogs and cats they instinctively do not like being carried or grabbed. And as “prey” animals is it really such a big deal if I try to eat them? I don’t think so, but my human would disagree.
